To lead up to the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl, and to celebrate the release of The BFG film this summer, the streets of London will transform into a magical Dream Jar Trail featuring specially designed sculptures by celebrities and top artists.

From 9 July to 31 August, a series of six-foot jars containing the childhood hopes and aspirations of famous people will be placed in key locations across the Capital, and in other notable spots around the UK.

Big names including Maisie Williams, Mark Rylance, model Sophie Dahl, and The BFG’s director Stephen Spielberg are among the celebs whose “uniquely decorated” jars will be placed near London landmarks. These will include St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Emirates Stadium, Leicester Square, as well as Roald Dahl’s Buckinghamshire home.

But, as in many of Dahl’s tales, there’s a twist. Further details about the installation will not be revealed until closer to the time. Fans must sign up to the Visit London website to find out more!

Once the trail finishes, each artwork will be auctioned to raise money for Save the Children and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

Speaking to Save the Children, Dahl’s granddaughter, model Sophie Dahl said: “I am thrilled to be part of such a creative adventure in support of the incredible work of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

“My grandfather was a great champion of dreams and imagination and I feel he would have been delighted to see his work supporting children in this way,” she added.

As fans of The BFG will recall, the magical jars are a homage to the novel’s lovable giant who blows bottled dreams into the bedrooms of children, including an orphan named Sophie.

The trail is just one of many events and activities taking place throughout the UK this summer to commemorate Dahl’s birthday. The BFG Movie will be released in UK cinemas on 22 July. How splendiferous!
