Love swimming but bored of the local pool? Well, we’ve got the solution…

The sun has finally arrived, bringing a sweltering summer heat. Okay, perhaps I am exaggerating, this is Britain after all! Regardless, a refreshing dip in cold waters is the perfect way to escape the heat.

London may not be the first place one thinks of to escape the summer heat. Let’s face it: millions of people jostling around crowded streets is not the most attractive way to spend a June afternoon. However, nestled in the centre of Hyde Park, is the Serpentine Lido, an oasis of calm amid the urban metropolis of Central London.

Admittedly, the lido – a rectangular bathing space carved out of Hyde Park’s main pond – isn’t your average swimming experience! The water is on the chilly side, so for those who feel the cold, it may be advisable to bring a wetsuit. Also expect to see a few ducks bobbing along beside you – adding a bit of ruggedness to the experience!

As seasoned samplers of the Lido, we can assure you that once you begin gliding in the water, without a building or busy road in sight, any worries about the cold will quickly drift away!

When? 1 June – 12 September 2016, from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (last entry 5:30pm) every day in June, July and August.

Where? Hyde Park, London
